Davao is All Set for Kadayawan 2017

It's less than a month to go before the Kadayawan festivities and Davao City is so ready to host and welcome guests for this yearly grand event. Kadayawan 2017 was officially launched early this month by no less than Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio with great pride and optimism.

This year, the theme for the most-awaited Kadayawan Festival is "Stand Tall, United, Resilient" which aptly describes Davao City and its people. Amid the threats and recent unfortunate incidents, the city's residents remain united and courageous to face life while being vigilant of their surroundings.

The Kadayawan 2017 will kick off on August 14 and will run until August 20. Magsaysay Park will be the venue of the festival's opening ceremony. Here's a quick peek of the upcoming events for Kadayawan 2017 (courtesy of the Kadawayan sa Davao Facebook page).

The floral parade that takes place on a Sunday is another highlight of the Kadayawan Festival. Companies and other organizations take part and create a float made of various types of flowers and plants usually in line with the event's theme. In the recent years, Kisan Lu Realty bagged the top award for creating the best designed float.

Fluvial Float Parade

The fluvial float para is a reenactment of the first settlement in Davao City. Scheduled on August 18 at 7 a.m., it will be participated in by 11 tribal communities. They will be riding on river floats that will traverse the Davao River.

Hiyas sa Kadayawan

The Hiyas ng Kadayawan is one of the highlights of this yearly festival. Taking part here are young female representatives of the 11 tribes of Davao. They will not only showcase their native costumes but also their cultural performances and intelligence. This year's competition will take place at the USEP gym.

Dula Kadayawan

Tribal games have also been organized for indigenous and Muslim people in the city. They will be held at the Tionko field on August 18 starting at 7 a.m.

Kadayawan Village

The Kadayawan Village to be located at the Magsaysay Park is another great spot to visit. It will showcase the various tribal communities in the city including their unique lifestyle and crafts.

Side Events

For the millennials who want to party during the Kadayawan weekend, there are events that have been organized by private organizations as well. One is the Carte Blanche 2017 by Manic Nightings Productions to be held at the Lanang Business Park.
