Upside Down House Museum: When Your World Literally Turns Around

Falling in love. Getting hitched to the man or woman of your dreams. Having a baby. Raising a toddler. Beating deadlines. Dealing with stress. These are some of the instances in life that many people admit could turn their world around. Of course, it's just figurative.

But what if you really find yourself in a place where everything's turned upside down? What if it's your house? How would you feel?

That strange feeling of being in awe and being helpless at the same time I recently experienced during our visit to the new Upside Down House Museum. Helpless because everything's on the ceiling (except for the two areas where the furniture and accessories are on the walls) and we can't be  like Spiderman who can easily climb any part of a room.

It was the day of the museum's blessing when my Davao Bloggers Society family got to experience being in a place where furniture, decors and fixtures are on the ceiling and walls. In short, everything's upside down from the facade to the main rooms in there.

As Davao City's newest attraction, this extraordinary house is a great place to unwind, have fun and take lots of creative snapshots with your partner, friends, kids or your entire family. It has five rooms that feature the different parts of a house. I love the color scheme in each room as well as the choice of furniture, fixtures and other accessories.

The Cayetano sisters who own the place related that the Upside Down Museum in Malaysia and Cebu inspired them to build a similar structure here in Davao City. Their advantage, though, is they have bigger space which means the house museum can accommodate more people. The best thing is there's no time limit when you get inside the main area. One just needs to bring his or her own socks but no worries if you forget to do so as socks are available for sale at the reception area.

So what can you do there? Apart from enjoying the sights, you can let your creative juice flow there through the photos you take. Think of actions that will be fun to view when upside down. Do some acting, posing and dancing if you will. Take advantage of the time while you're there so you can take as many souvenir shots as you want. Here are some of my fun shots taken by Mommy Olivia. :)

The Upside Down House Museum is along Dacudao Avenue (near the end) fronting the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) office. It is open from 9 am until 9 pm for this holiday season. The entrance fees are Php250 for adults and Php150 for kids.
