Mom's Day Out: A Breather for Davao Moms & Mommy Bloggers

It is always a welcome respite to spend time with like-minded people especially moms like me amidst our busy schedule. Thankfully, such respite happened last Saturday afternoon at Radisson Park Inn Hotel during "Mom's Day Out" organized by Sun Life Financial Philippines.

That afternoon was filled with moments of relaxation (thanks to the free back massage courtesy of Elysia Wellness Spa), laughter (thanks to our bubbly family life and financial management speakers) and learning about motherhood and preparing for a child's education. There were a lot of giggles and nods as the attendees got to relate to what the speakers were sharing.

Family Specialist Michele Alignay perked us up with her valuable tips on balancing motherhood. She made many of us mothers realize the importance of self-care (which most of us take for granted). Looking after our overall well-being, she said, is essential to enable us to perform our various daily tasks from household chores and errands to parenting and even performing office work.

Must-do actions she shared to carve one's practical self-care include:
  1. Choose to rest or sleep (over cleaning up).
  2. Give yourself an extra 10 minutes shower.
  3. Put a little color in your face (blush-on, lippie & don't forget the kilay).
  4. Find a spot to reflect.
  5. Find a daily physical activity (even just walking).
So far, I'm doing all five so I guess I need to pat myself on the back for the effort. :)

Mylene Almonte of Sun Life shares why moms need to prepare for their child's education.
On the other hand, Sun Life Mindanao Cluster head Mylene Almonte shared information on the projected cost of education in the coming years. At this point, there were a lot of 'wows' and 'ahs' from the mommies notably when we saw in her slides the ballooning cost of education beyond 2020. College education by then would be worth millions of pesos.

To answer to that need, Mylene introduced to us Sun Life's My Future Fund, an affordable option for saving up for our children's college education. With this available financial solution, it is possible for parents to send their kids to some of the country's best colleges and universities.

Motherhood may be tough for many of us but with the right attitude and faith in God, we can achieve a balanced life for our families. So kudos to all the moms out there!

I'm grateful to Sun Life for coming up with a "Mom's Day Out" and I hope that won't be the last for Davao mommies like me.

Sharing here a video dedicated to parents who sometimes, if not often, wonder if they are doing the right thing for their children.
