Popular Greetings

The main dialect in Davao City is Bisaya or Cebuano. But you don't have to learn the real Cebuano because what people in the city  normally speak is a mix of Bisaya and Tagalog. Knowing the basic Bisaya words will help you go around the place easily.

Here are some local terms that you may want to learn:
  • Maayong buntag -- Good morning.
  • Maayong hapon -- Good afternoon.
  • Maayong gabii -- Good evening.
  • Ayo-ayo -- Take care.
  • Tagpila ni? -- How much is this?
  • Asa ang...? -- Where is...(name of place)?
  • Adto ta didto -- Let's go there.
  • Baktas ta -- Let's walk.
  • Uli na ta -- Let's go home.
  • Mangaon na ta -- Let's eat.
  • Lami kaayo -- Very delicious (refers to food).
  • Nindot ang lugar -- The place is beautiful.
  • Palit ta ani -- Let's buy this.
  • Asa puede mosakay jeep? -- Where can we ride a jeep?
