About Davao City

Davao City is the largest city in the Philippines spanning 2,444 square kilometers. Geographically included in Davao del Sur, it has a population of 1,632,991 as of 2015.

The city was founded as a town on June 29, 1848 by Don Jose Cruz de Oyanguren who hailed from Guipuzcoa, Spain. It was, however, incorporated into cityhood on March 16, 1937. In line with this, a special Araw ng Dabaw celebration is organized each year every 16th day of March.

Various religions exist in Davao City with Catholic and Christian as the most dominant. The rest are the non-Christian faiths mostly Islam.
